three stage approach to scar and surgery healing, aimed at improving recovery and results
-

surgery preparation & care
Our work together aims to build up and nourish the body, supporting rich blood to nourish epithelium and muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones, along with supporting feelings of safety, a regulated nervous system and mental emotional health ahead of surgery.
Treatment and care usually starts at least one month in advance of surgery, and longer for people who are older, chronically unwell, with complex health pictures or iron deficient.
-

immediate post operative care
Time of minimal interventions, with treatments and our work together mostly supporting the effects of surgery and medications on nervous system, digestion, wellbeing and reducing pain. Whole body treatment away from surgery areas.
-

long term recovery
Our work together at this stage aims to calm the nervous system, increase energy and lift mood, promote blood flow, reduce pain, inflammation and numbness, soften scar tissue, ease stiffness and restriction in muscles and adhesion, build or disperse collagen, support integration into life.
Treatments on scar healing and impact on body usually starts 10-14 days after surgery, with longer term interventions on scars and integration of surgeries from 4-6 weeks onwards.

working with local symptoms in and around scars
Treatments emphasis on clearing numbness, tingling, pain, itching and general sensitivity to touch, helping you recover calmness and aliveness in your tissue, muscles and body.
treating side effects & secondary symptoms caused by scars & surgery

Secondary symptoms can include gastro-intestinal and gynaecological issues, sciatica, lack of clarity, focus, low mood, PMS, difficulty breathing in.

creating new experiences in healthcare
Alongside surgery and scar support, I work with people who are in therapy for needle phobia, medical anxiety and/or medical trauma, as well as people who are looking to have new and positive experiences in health care after previous harmful ones.
In our work together I won’t pathologise nor medicalised you or who you are, and will be working subtly and consistently with consent and pacing woven throughout the session, involving you in treatment decisions and choices, helping to you find confidence in yourself, within a medical setting, and while receiving treatments all while working with acupuncture, Chinese medicine and whole systems East Asian medicine.
